What gauge wire from MPPT to battery?

A question we often get asked is what size wire should be used from the MPPT controller to the battery bank. We would suggest using the largest (thickest) gauge wire that the Victron MPPT controller can accept. This will be identified on the MPPT product page / spec sheet / user manual.
Tip: use the largest (thickest) gauge wire that the Victron MPPT controller can accept
Take for example one of the more popular size Victron MPPT controllers we use a lot with our fixed frame bundles, the Victron 100|50 MPPT controller can accept up to 6AWG.
It's typically a short run from the MPPT to the battery but it is a lot of amps (current) so by having thicker gauge wire you help reduce wire losses (from voltage drop, heat build-up etc.) so more of the solar power you're producing will make it all the way to the battery.
