You may have read our news post from back in May 2025 'Is SunPower back in business?' which was written not long after Complete Solaria (often seen as Complete Solar) acquired assets from the bankruptcy and rebranded as SunPower keeping the brand name alive. Now 6 months later it's time to see what's happening at SunPower today?

In six months SunPower has completed some restructuring, cut costs and employees but also gone on to acquire two other solar companies:

Sunder Energy: Founded in 2019 and ranked 11th by installed residential systems (as reported by Ohm Analytics) acquired by SunPower for $40 million in September 2025. With the 30% Federal Tax Credits still applying to third party owned (TPO) residential systems (ie you went solar with a lease and not a cash deal) and 93% of Sunder Energy's order book being TPO it's a huge revenue generator for SunPower. The number of States operating in also increases from 22 to 45.

The solar industry is now consolidating

Ambia Solar: Founded in 2021, ranked 19th by installed residential systems and acquired for $37.5 million in November 2025. This deal was made to enhance SunPower's operations management and direct-to-consumer unit, adding a 203-person salesforce. Revenues from Ambia Solar will be combined into SunPower Q1 2026.

Neat interview with Max Britton, CEO of Sunder Energy

Going into 2026 it looks like an interesting time for SunPower. TJ Rodgers' mantra "we do not tolerate losing" served well with his past companies and he plans to bring that philosophy to the new SunPower. Maybe some more acquisitions in the future as they continue to grow and maybe climb the ladder to compete with SunRun for largest residential installer in the US. Opportunities aswell as SunPower's battery division develops.

Battery storage & backup is the biggest opportunity in solar right now. T.J. Rodgers, SunPower CEO
