At Sun Powered Yachts we started in October 2018 helping boat owners go solar with SunPower flexible solar panels (50W, 100W, 110W, 170W) and soon after in 2019 we started to offer SunPower fixed frame solar panels. Since 2024 we began offering Maxeon fixed frame solar panels.

Although installing fixed frame solar panels can still be a DIY project there are a number of considerations (compared to installing flex panels) that might mean you seek the help of a professional. Fixed frame panels are large & heavy and often require an install on a stainless steel arch/tower. They also typically operate at a much higher DC voltages (by ABYC standards anything over 50V DC is considered dangerous) and will require more circuit breakers, larger wiring etc.

Over the years we have met a number of marine electricians and solar installers at various boatshows we have attended. Not only that but many of our customers will let us know about great experiences they have had with their own installers. This has allowed us to put together a list (and now map) of these installers.
