It's particularly good to read that Kelly and her husband Ryan were able to take advantage of the Federal Tax Credit. Did you know that your boat can be classed by the IRS as your first (or second) home and as such is eligible for the 'residential' tax credit for going solar? Of course please consult your tax advisor/accountant but there are more details on our Solar Tax Credits page. In 2019 the credit will be 26% of the total system cost.
Flexible Solar On a Budget
You don't have to spend a fortune on a flexible panel solar array, as Kelly Ran found
"When we set off on our Caribbean cruise aboard Iteration, our 53ft Amel Super Maramu, my husband, Ryan, and I planned to add solar power to minimize generator usage. Many Super Maramu owners choose to install a solar arch off their sterns, but we weren't fans of how this would look, or how much it would cost. We decided that a flexible solar array on our bimini would be the best solution. We wanted as much power as we could get from bimini-mounted solar panels - without paying an arm and a leg. Luckily, we found high-performance components that didn't break the bank."
